Former Iron Man Champion and fitness guru Guy Leach gives K-Z a training manual on how on how to keep fit!

Guy has won the Australian Iron Man series seven times - that's some serious fitness!

KZ: What are the main reasons it's important to stay fit and healthy?

GL: The main message is that it's gonna give you a far better quality of life. You'll enjoy life so much more if you're healthy and you can do all the things you wanna do with an able body.

KZ: If K-Zoners are going to have an active day, what should they be eating?

GL:
They should definitely be eating breakfast - you've got a start your day off in the right way. You want to put healthy food into your body to start off your day because once you put the food into your body your metabolism has to kick in to break the food down. Having breakfast and getting into that habit is really, really important because the majority of adults who are obese skip breakfast.

KZ: What are some of the activities K-Zoners can do to stay healthy?

GL:
Anything active, whether it's enjoying team sports, triathlon or playing in the back yard is good and not too much time in front of the TV or computer games. It's fine to do those things but it's still important to keep active and to keep moving around. There's also nothing wrong with enjoying fast foods and lollies but if you want to fill your body properly you should be putting healthy foods into your body.

KZ: Is it important to stretch before exercise?

GL:
It's actually more important to stretch once you've warmed up a little bit first, so you've got the muscles working and got the body moving and pumping blood before you stretch.

KZ: How many times a week should K-Zoners be exercising?

GL:
They should be doing something every day for at least 30 minutes a day. Whether its playing soccer with your mates or cricket at the park. If you can create healthy habits when you're young, the chances of having a healthy life later on are much greater.

KZ: You're an ambassador for the Weet-Bix kids TRY-athlons - what are they all about?

GL: The TRY-athlons are a great way to get kids active, enjoy sport and enjoy being healthy and to do it in an environment that is competitive but only as competitive as you want it to be. Plus, everyone gets a medal.

KZ: What's your top five tips for staying healthy and active?

GL:

1. Eating a healthy breakfast

2. Eating two pieces of fruit and three different coloured vegetables a day

3. Being active for at least 30 min each day

4. Getting a good night's sleep (sleep is good for growth and recovery)

5. Enjoying fast food and lollies but only as treats
